Yayo Morales (* 1967 in La Paz ) is a Bolivian jazz musician ( drums , composition).

Act

Morales studied drums at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in La Paz from 1983 to 1989 ; During this time he was involved in the rock band Trueno Azul . In 1990 he moved to Spain, where he continued his studies with Carlos Carli and deepened his knowledge of arrangement and composition at the Escuela de Musica Creativa in Madrid. He also took part in masterclasses with Tony Moreno , Allen Blairman , Billy Cobham , Lewis Nash , Efraim Toro and Alex Acuña , among others .

Over the next few years, Morales worked with Jerry González , Jorge Pardo , Ricard Miralles, Chano Domínguez , Bob Sands, Tomatito , Carles Benavent and Antonio Carmona ; In the La Barbería del Sur and La Calle Caliente projects , there was cooperation with u. a. José El Francés, Rita Marley and Azúcar Moreno . Peter Materna brought him into his trio ( The Dancer ) in 2006 . He can also be heard on albums by Antonio Vargas Cortés ("El Potito"), Diego el Cigala , Pato Munoz and Laura Hess.

His first album under his own name, Los Andes Jazz Project (2007), reflects the music of the Andes ; In 2017 the follow-up album, recorded with pianist German Kucich and bassist Scott Ambush, was released, which was selected for grammar nomination. In 2019 he toured Europe with Azar Lawrence .

Morales returned to Bolivia in 2013, where he teaches at the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés .
