Azúcar Moreno

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Azúcar Moreno (Spanish: brown sugar ) is a music duo from Spain with a Gitano background.

Career

The duo consists of the two sisters Toni (born March 14, 1963) and Encarna (born January 10, 1961) Salazar, both born in Badajoz . Her debut single Que Si, Que No , was released in 1983 and her first album Con la miel en los labios in 1984 . In 1986, Estimúlame followed . In 1988 they published Carne De Melocotón .

Azúcar Moreno represented Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest 1990 in Zagreb with the song Bandido and took fifth place among 22 participants. The performance of the singers was accompanied by one of the biggest technical glitches in the history of the ESC. The tape with the prepared sound of percussion and basic rhythm was started up too late, so that the orchestra could no longer start. The singers then left the stage for a short time. It wasn't until the second start that everything worked out and the singers proved to be nervous. Azúcar Moreno achieved their international breakthrough through their participation in the ESC with many hits such as Mambo (1991), Olé (1998), Amén (2000) or Bésame (2001). According to their official website, the duo have received 35 gold and 18 platinum records and sold more than six million records.

On November 27, 2008, the duo announced their temporary resignation because Encarna Salazar had to undergo chemotherapy for breast cancer . Her healing was announced in September 2009.

At the end of 2013 the duo celebrated their live comeback. Her last studio album to date was released in 2006 under the title Bailando Con Lola .
