Yeti - Das Schneemonster (Original title: Yeti: Curse of the Snow Demon ) is a Canadian-American horror film by the director Paul Ziller , which was produced for US television and broadcast on November 8, 2008 on Syfy . The film premiered on May 18, 2008 at the Cannes Film Festival . The action takes place in the border region between Tibet and Nepal . Nine survivors of a plane crash have to wait for their rescue in freezing temperatures in the Himalayan mountains .

action

The State College Grizzlys football team is on a flight to an away game when their plane gets into turbulence. The pilots can no longer bring the machine under their control. This is followed by a rapid loss of altitude, which finally leads to the crash of the machine in the mountains of the Himalayas - far away from any civilization. Nine passengers survive.

The cockpit is so badly damaged that an emergency signal can no longer be sent by radio. So Garcia and Andrews go to the snowy woods to look for the replacement radio. This is kept in the tail of the aircraft for safety reasons and the tail is five miles away. They find it, but they can't connect to civilization with it. Traces of blood lead to a nearby rock cave. They suspect other survivors of the crash there. Their willingness to help will soon be their undoing. Andrews is being torn to pieces by a very hairy monster - half animal, half human. Only Garcia makes it back to the fuselage, in which the others have meanwhile set up a temporary home. They laid the dead in rows in the snow outside.

When the food runs out on the second day, Ravin suggests using the corpses as a source of food. Sarah and Peyton are strictly against it. The two immediately go hunting for small animals to prevent the burgeoning cannibalism .

At the same time, their camp - recognizable by the built campfire - is sighted by the mountain rescue team from a great distance using binoculars . Shortly after the machine disappeared from the radar, a two-man rescue team from the Nepalese Mountain Rescue Service went in search of survivors. Sheppard and Fury will be walking for two to three days before they reach the crash site.

Meanwhile, Kyra begins to burn the corpses because she considers consumption to be ethically unacceptable and because her brother is one of the victims. This really infuriates the white-haired giant monkey, since until now he has used the neatly lined up corpses every night. To get revenge, he takes Sarah to his cave after killing Dennis and Ashley.

Help finally arrives the next morning. Sheppard and Fury are greeted by the survivors at the fuselage with great relief. Sheppard tries to take the group to a helipad immediately, but leaving Sarah behind is out of the question for Peyton - a romance has developed between the two. Together they all search for the yeti's cave, dig a deep pit in front of its entrance and lure the monster out of its lair. The plan succeeds, the Yeti falls into the trap. Sarah is saved.

With the deceptive certainty that they have left all dangers behind, they now set off for the landing site. The yeti, who seems to have been able to free himself from the hole, follows them and kills Fury, Sheppard and Ravin. In the end, thanks to her ingenuity, Sarah manages to throw the Yeti down a steep slope. Only four members of the football team ultimately escape the plane disaster. Peyton, Sarah, Kyra and Rice are flown home by the helicopter crew.

background

The film was shot in Vancouver , Canada . The abridged version was premiered on German television on May 29, 2010 on Tele 5 . This version has a different release from 12 years.

In order to put on the Yeti costume, the actor spent 3½ hours in the mask every day. The jumping and running scenes of the Yeti were computer-animated using CGI .

criticism

“Ridiculous low-budget horror film at the lowest genre level. Neither the actors nor the make-up artist were required to perform recognizable. "

“I don't want to complain, but I dare to deny whether author Jordan has even seen a Discovery Channel documentary about the Himalayas. Well, the Canadian Rockies with their lush coniferous forest are not inherently the best double for the Nepalese ultra-high mountains (where, as is well known, tree vegetation at 6000 m looks rather economical and, in my opinion, hares and squirrels rarely live) - but who is a pilot from the USA Flying to Japan over the Himalayas doesn't really care about research, I think. Otherwise, an author would probably also know [how] cold it is on site and that six days in college jackets and woolen blankets would probably bring more than just 'alleged' frostbite (our heroes look just as fresh at the end of their 'ordeal') like on the first day, and not because they were frozen) ...
