Yoandri Betanzos Francis (born February 15, 1982 in Santiago de Cuba ) is a Cuban three jumper .
After he started athletics at the age of nine, his talent for the jumping disciplines was quickly discovered. At first he concentrated on the high jump , but switched to the triple jump on the advice of his trainer, since he is not tall. In 1999 he won silver at the World Youth Championships, the following year silver at the World Junior Championships and in 2001 he became the Pan-American Junior Champion.
In 2003 he won the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo and shortly afterwards won silver at the World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis .
In 2004 he won bronze at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest and came fourth at the Olympic Games in Athens . At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 he landed again on the silver rank.
In 2006 he won bronze again at the World Indoor Championships in Moscow . The following year, however, he failed at the World Championships in Osaka in qualifying. In 2008 he could not qualify for one of the three triple jump starting places in the Cuban national team for the Olympic Games in Beijing . After he had improved his personal best by two centimeters to 17.65 m in Havana in April 2009 , he was eliminated again in the qualification at the World Championships in Berlin in August .
