Yohann Gène (born June 25, 1981 in Pointe-à-Pitre ) is a former French cyclist from Guadeloupe .

Career

Yohann Gène drove in his entire career in cycling teams of Jean-René Bernaudeau , first from 1999 for the club team Vendée U , before moving in 2005 to the first team, the then Bouygues Telecom was called and a license as a UCI ProTeam possessed. Also in 2005 he contested his first Grand Tour with the Vuelta a España and finished the race 127th in the overall standings. He contested the Giro d'Italia in 2006, 2007 and 2009 and the Tour de France from 2011 to 2017 ; it is said that he was the first black athlete to compete in the Tour. His best result in the Tour de France was 128th in 2014 . In 2009 he won his first international competition with a stage of the Tour de Langkawi . His greatest career successes were the overall rankings of the Gabonese stage race La Tropicale Amissa Bongo in 2013 and 2017. After the end of the 2019 season, he ended his career as an active.
