Yoni Zelnik

Yoni Zelnik (* 1975 in Haifa ) is an Israeli jazz musician ( double bass , composition ).

Zelnik played electric bass in rock bands as a teenager . He then studied jazz and double bass at the Jerusalem Music Academy and moved to Paris in 1995 to study at the Center d'informations musicales (CIM).

Zelnik stayed in Paris permanently and belonged to the groups of Youn Sun Nah , Géraldine Laurent , Sophie Alour , Laurent Coq , Pierre de Bethmann and Philippe Soirat . With drummer Donald Kontomanou he formed the trio of Yonathan Avishai in 2014 , which released three albums, most recently Joys and Solitudes (2019) on ECM Records . Together with Frédéric Borey, Yoann Loustalot and Frédéric Pasqua he plays in the collaborative quartet Lucky Dog (album of the same name in 2014 on Fresh Sound New Talent ). He also worked with Avishai Cohen , Nasheet Waits , Ari Hoenig , Gilad Hekselman , Zarifa, Florian Pellissier and Sandro Zerafa .

He has performed internationally in more than 60 countries and has been involved in more than 45 albums since 2001. He has played at festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival , Jazz à Marciac , Jazz à Vienne , Jazz à Juan and in 2019 at the BMW Welt Jazz Award .
