The Norfolk IceCats were a Canadian ice hockey team based in Simcoe , Ontario . The team last played in the 2007-08 season in the North Eastern Hockey League . The home games were played in Talbot Gardens .

history

The team was founded in 2003 as a franchise of the North Eastern Hockey League , which was held for the first time . It was initially located in York in the US state of Pennsylvania , where it appeared under the name York IceCats . As the second best team of the regular season, the team met in the finals on the Jamestown Titans , which they were subject to. Due to financial problems, the 2004/05 season of the NEHL was not held. For the following season, the franchise was moved to St. Catharines , Ontario , where it operated under the name of St. Catharines IceCats . For this season, the league was renamed the Continental Professional Hockey League , the renaming to the original name took place in the 2006/07 season.

However, due to the economic situation of the league, the season could not be played to the end, so that the team returned to the United States for the 2006/07 season. It was settled in Utica , New York State , and appeared there as the Mohawk Valley IceCats . For the 2007/08 season, the last of the North Eastern Hockey League, the franchise was relocated again; this time to Simcoe , Ontario. There the team acted as the Norfolk IceCats . The season could not be ended as planned, so that both the league and the Norfolk IceCats franchise disbanded as a result.
