Yoshitaka Uematsu

Yoshitaka Uematsu ( Japanese 植 松 良 高 , Uematsu Yoshitaka , * February 1949 in Tokyo Prefecture ; † June 1, 2008 ) was a Japanese jazz musician ( drums ).

Yoshitaka Uematsu worked in the Japanese jazz scene a. a. in the trio of pianist Kunihiko Sugano (with bassist Eizō Honda ), with whom the first recordings were made in 1974. The following year he performed with Takeshi Shibuya (piano) and Tatsuhiro Matsumoto (bass) at the Pannonica jazz club . In 1986, in New York City, a joint album was made with saxophonist Jeff Hittman ( Mosaic , Soul Note ), on which Valery Ponomarev , Dennis Irwin and Larry Willis participated. Also in New York, he took part in the recording sessions for the album Ululation by John Lee Krasnow and Valery Ponomarev. In 1999 he played in the trio of Tsuyoshi Yamamoto ( Speak Low , with Tsutomu Okada ). He also led his own formation Matsu & His Super Band , which also included Tsutomu Okada and Tsuyoshi Yamamoto ( Dreamy , 2007). In the field of jazz, Tom Lord lists him in six recording sessions between 1974 and 2007. As a studio musician, he accompanied a. a. the smooth jazz singer Tsutomu Okada. Shortly before his death he performed in the trio of bassist Teruo Nakamura (with Hiromu Aoki , piano).
