Tsutomu Okada

Tsutomu Okada ( Japanese 岡田 勉 , Okada Tsutomu ; born December 23, 1948 in Ehime Prefecture ; † October 2, 2013 ) was a Japanese jazz musician ( double bass ).

Tsutomu Okada worked in the Tokyo jazz scene from the early 1970s a. a. with Hiroshi Fukumura (who made the first recordings in 1973), Terumasa Hino , Kohsuke Mine , Kazumi Watanabe , Fumio Itabashi , Sadao Watanabe and Hiroshi Murakami . In 1979 he appeared as a member of Tsuyoshi Yamamoto's Trio with Toots Thielemans at the Pit Inn jazz club. In 1985 he took part in a recording session by Lee Konitz and Gary Foster with (Body and Soul , also with Masao Nakajima , Jimmie Smith ). From the 1990s he continued to work in the Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio, also with Yoshiaki Masuo , Takehiro Honda , again in 1992 with Konitz ( Lee Konitz Meets Don Friedman ), and with Kazuhiko Takeda . In the field of jazz he was involved in 49 recording sessions between 1973 and 2012, including a. also as a companion of the vocalists Minami Yasuda , Sumiko Yoseyama , Eddie Yamamoto , Takako Ueno , Kiyoko Ami , Romi Akiyama and Chie Ayado . In the late 2000s he was still performing in Japan with his own quartet, which included Kohosuke Mine, Koji Goto and Hiroshi Murakami (album Happiness ).
