Il mio mondo is the title of an Italian-language pop song composed by Umberto Bindi and written by Gino Paoli . The English-language cover version You're My World starring Cilla Black became a number one hit in the UK in 1964.

The original

Umberto Bindi was one of the most famous representatives of the Genoese school of songwriters in the 1960s . With his song Il nostro concerto he achieved a great success in 1960 and it was covered several times, including by Helmut Zacharias as an instrumental version. The song Il mio mondo was created in collaboration with Gino Paoli, whose last successful song Il cielo in una stanza was first covered by Mina in Italy and then by Connie Francis in Italian and English ( This World We Love In ). Il mio mondo (German: "My World") was produced in 1963 with Umberto Bindi as a singer and published by the Italian RCA .

Cilla Black

Of the numerous cover versions that appeared in Europe soon after the original was released, the adaptation by British singer Cilla Black was by far the most successful. With her song Anyone Who Had a Heart , the 21-year-old had just topped the British charts. The text for Black's new production was written by the American Carl Sigman , under the heading You're My World there is a declaration of love: “You're my world, you are my night and day (You are my world, you are my night, you are my day) ”. The song was recorded in London's Abbey Road Studios in April 1964 , with Johnny Pearson providing the background with guitarist Judd Proctor and Bobby Willis, Black's later husband.

The record company Parlophone released the single with You're My World on the A-side in early May with catalog number 5133 in record stores. As early as May 8, 1964, the title appeared in the top 40 hit list of the music magazine New Musical Express . On May 29th he reached number one for the first time and was able to maintain this until June 12th. You're My World was listed in the top 40 for a total of 17 weeks. Competitive magazine Record Retailer put the song in first place on their top 50 list for four weeks.

After its success in Great Britain, Cilla Black's You're My World was published worldwide and was able to place itself in the hit lists in numerous countries (Australia 1st, Ireland and New Zealand 2nd). It was also the first title that Cilla Black was able to release in the United States. The record company Capitol Records brought him to the American record stores in June 1964 on the single no. 5196. In the Hot 100 in the US music magazine Billbord reached You're My World Square 26th

More cover versions

Carl Sigman's text also appeared with British singer Joan Baxter in the 1960s. Camillo Felgen alias Heinz Helmer wrote a German text for Il mio mondo with the title Meine Welt bist du , which was sung by Anita Traversi on Ariola in 1965 . In 1964, numerous interpreters sang the song with the French text Ce monde by Georges Bérard, among them Richard Anthony and Ria Bartok. The latter also produced a Spanish-language version entitled Mi mundo , also from 1964. In the 1970s, several prominent singers recorded You're My World on LP , such as Tom Jones , Helen Reddy and Dionne Warwick .
