Yuri (born January 6, 1964 in Veracruz as Yuridia Valenzuela Canseco) is a Mexican singer and film actress , who is also known as Reina del Pop (German Queen of Pop ) or as Reina del Pop Latino .

Life

At the age of 14, Yuri released her first music album, Ilumina Tu Vida . With a few titles, such as Primer Amor , Bailad and especially Esperanzas , all of which appeared on her second album from 1980, she achieved her national breakthrough. Her single El Oso Panda de Chapultepec , which was released soon after, was dedicated to Tohui , who was born at Chapultepec Zoo in 1981 , and sold more than a million copies in Mexico alone.

For her third album Llena de Dulzura she was awarded a gold record in Spain , something that no interpreter from Latin America had ever achieved before . In 1986 she was nominated for a Grammy for the song Yo Te Pido Amor in the United States .

In 1989 she recorded A Better Place in a duet with Don Johnson . At the beginning of 2013 she was elected Carnival Princess of Veracruz . The following year, two tumors were diagnosed on her vocal cords . In 1997 she began shooting her autobiographical film Yuri, mi verdadera historia ( Spanish for Yuri, my true story ).

Private life

Between 1988 and 1990 she was married to her manager Fernando Iriarte. She has been married to Rodrigo Espinoza since 1995, with whom she has a daughter.
