Asaf Yuria

Asaf Yuria (* June 1985 ) is an Israeli jazz musician ( soprano and tenor saxophone , composition ) of modern jazz .

Yuria started playing the saxophone when she was nine and then performed in local clubs in Tel Aviv as a teenager. While attending secondary school, he had the opportunity to play with musicians such as Arnie Lawrence , Jess Koren, Amit Golan , Amos Hoffman , Ofer Ganor and Harold Rubin . The first recordings were made in 2003 with guitarist Yotam Silberstein ( The Arrival ), in 2005 with Rea Bar-Ness ( Remember & Forget , among others with Avishai Cohen ). He then moved to New York to attend The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Musicto study; He graduated in 2012. In the 2010s, Yuria played in the quintet of Omer Avital ( Abutbul Music ) and with Jeremy Manasia ( Sutra Book ). Furthermore, he leads his own quintet with which he plays his own compositions; With the formation he released a first album in 2018, Papa Wawa (self-published by Zamzama). In the field of jazz he was involved in six recording sessions between 2003 and 2018. Yuria currently leads a quintet that includes Josh Evans , Jonathan Voltzok (trombone), Jeremy Manasia (piano), Ben Meigners (bass) and Jason Brown (drums).
