Yves Petry

Yves Petry (born July 26, 1967 in Tongeren ) is a Flemish writer and journalist .

biography

Petry studied mathematics and philosophy at the University of Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, KUL) and is the main editor of the magazine for literature and intellectual life Dietsche Warande & Belfort (DWB) and also in the magazine Nieuw Wereldtijdschrift (NWT) . He made his debut as a novelist in 1999 with Het jaar van de man (The Year of the Man), for which he received a lot of praise. He then published the critically acclaimed novel Gods eigen muziek (God's own music). In 2003, De laatste woorden van Leo Wekeman (The Last Words of Leo Wekeman) was his third novel. For the novel De achterblijver (The Straggler) from 2006 Petry was awarded the BNG New Literature Prize (BNG Nieuwe Literatuurprijs) and the Literature Prize of the Province of Flemish Brabant (Prijs van de provincie Vlaams-Brabant). His fifth novel also received an award: the much-praised novel De maagd Marino was awarded the renowned Libris Literature Prize and the Inktaap . This book was published in German in 2016 under the title "In Paradisum". His last novel Liefde bij wijze van spreken was published in 2015. In addition to his work as a novelist, Petry wrote short stories, plays and essays.
