Annelies Verbeke (born February 6, 1976 in Dendermonde , Belgium ) is a Flemish writer and playwright.

Life

Annelies Verbeke studied literature with a focus on Germanic languages at the University of Ghent and screenwriting at the RITCS in Brussels . With her novel Slaap! She made her debut as a writer in 2003. The book sold more than 75,000 copies, received critical acclaim, and the rights were sold in more than 22 countries. It was published in German in 2005 by Reclam Verlag in Leipzig based on a translation by Heike Baryga under the title Schlaf! . Verbeke received the Ferdinand Bordewijk Prize 2015 and the Opzij Literature Prize 2016 for her third novel Thirty Days .
