Yvette Baker

Yvette Baker ( born Hague ; * 1968 in the United States ) is a former British orienteer . She was the 1999 short distance world champion.

Yvette Hague was born in the United States in 1968. Her British parents later moved to England and New Zealand with her. In 1983 she won the Jan Kjellstrom Trophy . She was then nominated for the British national team and was used at the 1983 World Championships in Hungary in the British relay, which finished seventh. In the following years she managed to defend the place in the national team before her breakthrough at the 1993 World Championships in West Point . On the long distance she came in bronze behind Marita Skogum from Sweden and Annika Viilo from Finland. In 1995 at the world title competitions in Detmold , Germany, she came second in both individual competitions behind Marie-Luce Romanens from Switzerland and Katalin Oláh from Hungary. In 1999 the World Championships took place in Scotland and Baker won the race on the short distance. On the long distance she just missed a medal just like with the British relay. The following year, for the first time in over thirty years, the European Orienteering Championships took place. At the competitions in Ukraine she won two bronze medals on the long distance and with the relay.

She won the British championships on the short distance in 1998 and 1999. On the long distance in 1989, 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995, 1998 and 1999 and in 1992 in night orienteering.
