Yvette Bonnay (* before 1959) is a French costume designer .

Life

Yvette Bonnay worked as a costume designer for French film from 1959. The first film in which she was involved as such was Yves Ciampi's film drama The Storm breaks loose with Curd Jürgens in the lead role. However, only a few jobs followed as chief designer of a film, including Bertrand Tavernier's Vacation for a Week (1980) with Nathalie Baye . Mostly Bonnay was used under the direction of other chief designers, such as in 1971 for The Cat with Jean Gabin and Simone Signoret .

She often made costumes for the actor Philippe Noiret , with whom she had already worked at the Théâtre National Populaire . Their joint film productions include Adel does not protect against folly (1969), Monsieur Albert (1976), The Family Pyramid (1984) and Claude Chabrol's Masks (1987). For Alain Cavalier's biopic Thérèse about the nun Therese von Lisieux , Bonnay received a 1987 nomination for César in the category of best costumes . However, it was defeated by Anthony Powell , who won the Pirate Award . Bonnay was last active in film in 1996.
