The Zöbernbach (also Zöbern ) is a left tributary of the Güns and flows into Lockenhaus ( Burgenland ). The majority of the approximately 32 km long stretch of river lies in Lower Austria and Burgenland; the headwaters are in the Styrian Wechselland. The spa town of Bad Schönau and the municipality of Kirchschlag in the Bucklige Welt , known primarily for its Passion Play, are located on the Zöbernbach .
Although the Zöbernbach covers a stretch of flow that is almost three times longer until it flows into the Güns and has a significantly higher water flow than the Güns, it "loses" its name. However, from an etymological point of view, the name Zöbern should correspond to the geographical conditions. The Latin name for the river Güns is Sibaris and gave its name to the Roman Sabaria , today's Szombathely . The current name Zöbern is likely to be a modification of "Sibaris" or "Sabaria".
