Zachary "Zak" Kovalcik (born April 26, 1983 in Pittsburgh ) is an American track cyclist .

Athletic career

Zak Kovalcik comes from the fixie scene and began his cycling career as a bicycle courier. After winning two national courier titles and moving to Portland , Oregon , he began racing at the Alpenrose Velodrome . He was twice the American team pursuit champion , in 2012 with Joe Eldridge , David Holt and Zack Noonan , and in 2014 with Zach Allison , Alexander Darville and Adrian Hegyvary .

Until 2015, Zak Kovalcik competed three times in the Berlin six-day race in the standing competition there at the mediation of Jack Simes and at the invitation of Rainer Podlesch . As a conspicuous driver with a flashy hairstyle, tattoos and piercings , he developed into a crowd favorite. Kovalcik is vegan and, together with other vegans, forms the Portland Punk Kids team .

In 2016, Zak Kovalcik won two medals at the Pan-American championships: he won silver in the scratch and bronze in the omnium . In the scratch he became US champion that year. In 2017 he and Zachary Carlson won the Pan-American championship in two-man team driving .
