Zavelim (also Zavelin ) is a small municipality in Bosnia and Herzegovina . The population was 274 in 1991.

Zavelim is located on the border with Croatia and is the westernmost place in the community of Posušje . To the east is Vir and to the south is Podbila and the Croatian border. North of Roško Polje (Union Municipality of Tomislavgrad ).

Almost exclusively Catholic Croats live in the village .

history

An important Roman road from Narona (Vid bei Metković) to Delminium (Duvanjsko polje) led via Zavelim. Zavelim, like Vir, fell into Turkish hands in 1513 as one of the last places in Herzegovina .

  • The place lies below the mountain of the same name Zavelim ( 1346  m. I. J. ) and is a very popular hunting and hiking area. There are 77 springs on the mountain .
  • The church in Zavelim was built in 1934 and dedicated to Sv. Dedicated to Ante Padovanski ( Anthony of Padua ). It belongs to the parish of Vir.
