Zdeněk Smetana

Zdeněk Smetana (born July 26, 1925 in Prague ; † February 25, 2016 there ) was a Czech draftsman, screenwriter and director of cartoons and illustrator of picture books . He worked at the film studio Bratři v triku and later at Krátký film Praha .

In the early 1960s, Zdeněk Smetana worked under the pseudonym Dennis Smith for the cartoon series Tom and Jerry . His own cartoon series Pohádky z mechu a kapradí (Křemílek a Vochomůrka) was broadcast between 1971 and 1974 by Das Erste , Südwest 3 and ORF under the title Tales between Moos and Fern and on Swiss television under the title Fly Agaric and Casimir . This series based on a book by Václav Čtvrtek is about two goblins who live in a house in the middle of the forest. Smetana's trademarks include plant leaves dipped in ink and used as a background.

Awards

Smetana was awarded in 1980 in Cannes the Jury Prize for Short Film Krychle . In total, he won more than fifty awards, including in Berlin and Venice .
