The Voccart mine was a hard coal mine in the Herzogenrath district of Straß in the city region of Aachen , right on the edge of the local "Kohlberg". The mine was founded and operated around 1830 by the owner company James Cockerill , Christine Englerth , Karl Winkens and Hauche Corne. Here around 135 miners with two steam engines of 12 and 15 hp extracted 0.9 tonnes of coal and 49,873 tonnes of semolina with a total value of around 28,800 Reichstaler at peak times. From around 1840 the mine was operated initially by the Association for Hard Coal Construction in the Wurmrevier and from 1907 to 1932 by the Eschweiler Mining Association (EBV). In 1912, the underground network with the neighboring Laurweg mine was established and Voccart ceased to operate independently. The shaft was then only used for personnel travel and ventilation. Before that, Voccart had already used the Laurweg coal washing facility, for which purpose the loaded coal hunt had been transported over the tracks of the Aachen tram to Laurweg by means of special railcars .

In 1968 the last systems on the Voccart mine site were shut down and demolished. On the site, on which only a small monument in the form of a cart reminds of the pit, is now a furniture store, a shoe discounter , an electronics and household goods discounter and a fitness studio. In addition, the main traffic artery from Herzogenrath-Straß (L 232) and a street in the neighboring district of Bleyerheide (city of Kerkrade , Netherlands ) were named after the former colliery .
