The Schärligbach [ (d̥ə) ˈʒ̊æːrlig̊b̥ɑxˑ ] is an approximately 7 kilometers long tributary of the Ilfis on the left in the upper Entlebuch .

Its source streams arise on the northern slope of the Wachthubels and on the Günhorne in the municipality of Marbach in the canton of Lucerne . It first runs north through the Buschachengraben and then turns north-east at Brameggmoos . After it has passed into flatter terrain in the Meisenbache and has turned again to the north, it flows through the Schärlig and takes the Kurzenbach flowing into Schärligbad from the left . Then it passes the courtyards of the hamlet of Schlatt at the foot of the Guggchnubels and in Wissebach pours into the Ilfis from the left .

Surname

The current name of the brook has been documented since 1531 ( after the schärlig brook depends ... in the Scherlibach ) and is taken from the Schärlig , the area at and in front of the confluence of the Kurzenbach.

The name Wißenbach seems to be older, which is attested for the water body at the same time (Vacht ann die march dess gůtz (vorder kurtzenbach) an dem wÿssennbach ) and for the place where the river meets the Ilfis as early as 1306 (possessiones subscriptas, scilicet Wisenbach et Gummon. .. cum hucusque possessio dicta Wisenbach ) . This name still appears in a document from 1730 copied around 1800 (Das Gut im Schärling ... begins at Spürler's Matten am Weisenbach , now Schärligbach ) and is to be interpreted as the locative dative form of the 'white ≈ shiny brook'.
