Zeholfing is a district of the city of Landau an der Isar in the Lower Bavarian district of Dingolfing-Landau . Until 1972 it formed an independent municipality.

location

The parish village of Zeholfing is located on the steep bank of the Isar about five kilometers northeast of Landau on the state road 2114.

history

The place is first mentioned in 1148. Initially the vicariate of the Ettling parish, the Zeholfing parish was founded in 1261 as a presentation parish by Niederaltaich monastery . The noble family of the Zeholfinger died out around 1292 and their property passed to the Leiblfinger .

Zeholfing formed a Hofmark , which was acquired by the Closen zu Gern in 1454 . In 1643 it was sold by them together with Hofmark Prunn to Johann Adolph von Tattenbach zu Adldorf . The Tattenbach united Zeholfing with Exing . The later municipality of Zeholfing belonged to the Landau an der Isar district .

In the last days of the war in 1945, German troops blew up the wooden Isar bridge in front of the approaching Americans. The Americans then bombed the place, destroying two properties and seriously damaging the church tower. There were three dead, a young soldier and two civilians.

In 1946 the former municipality of Poldering was incorporated into the municipality of Zeholfing with the exception of the places Haidberg, Wimpersing and Hilgersdorf, which came to the municipality of Kammern . The village of Zeholfing had a four-class elementary school, which was dissolved in 1970 and incorporated into the Landau an der Isar school association.

On July 1, 1972, the municipality of Zeholfing was incorporated into the city of Landau an der Isar as part of the regional reform . The last mayor of the community was Josef Geier, who managed the affairs of the community from 1948 until the incorporation.

The village of Zeholfing used to have a purely rural structure. A restructuring began in the 1950s and is still ongoing today. Three building areas, Zeholfing-West, Zeholfing-Ost and Pfarrgarten could be developed, the other building area Senfeldanger has been designated.

Zeholfing successfully took part in several village beautification competitions at the district, district and state level. The place was also known for its large cherry orchards.

Attractions

  • Parish Church of St. Laurentius. At the place of the existing sacred building, a wooden church with a cemetery from the 8th / 9th centuries is archaeologically. Century proven. This was replaced in the following centuries by subsequent buildings in wood and from the 11th century at the latest in tuff stone. Contrary to what is stated in the older literature, the existing church goes back to an originally two-aisled complex with a tower south of the choir from the second half of the 13th century. An annex , probably added on the north side in the 14th century , was extended to a north aisle around 1500 and vaulted in late Gothic style together with the south aisle, which had been roofed up until then. In the 18th century the church was redesigned in Baroque style and the existing sacristy and the western porch were added. The two ceiling paintings in the nave represent the Coronation of the Virgin Mary and the Torture of St. Laurentius . In the western vestibule there is a beautiful dance of death from 1734, which was uncovered and restored in the course of the last interior renovation from 1999 to 2001.
