Sociological diagnosis of the times
Sociological diagnosis of the time or sociological diagnosis of the present denotes a genre of sociological publications that tries to highlight and simplify the fundamental characteristics of contemporary society. Usually a single principle of social order or its dynamics is highlighted and its consequences are analyzed. Sociological diagnoses of the time or the present are more abstract than analyzes that relate to specific national societies or key events in them that are closely delimited over time. But they are less abstract than sociological social theories. Uwe Schimank points out that the speculative character of sociological present-day diagnoses carries the risk of error. Every sociological diagnosis of the present is "a strong elimination of the association". Alexander Bogner offers an overview of the sociological diagnoses of the time and society in Society Diagnoses (2015).
