Zeljko Karajica

Zeljko Karajica (born December 14, 1970 in Hamburg ) is a German manager and entrepreneur.

Life

Zeljko Karajica was born in Hamburg as the first of three sons of Croatian immigrants. The first years of his childhood he lived with his grandparents in what was then Yugoslavia. He spent the rest of his childhood and youth with his parents and brothers in Hamburg.

education

In 1990 Zeljko Karajica graduated from the Albrecht-Thaer-Gymnasium in Hamburg . He then studied political science and economics at the University of Hamburg . He completed his degree in political science in 1995, followed by a degree in economics a year later in 1996.

Career

Beginnings

During his studies he already worked as a presenter for the Hamburg radio station OK-Radio and as a freelance editor at Tele 5. This was followed by a position as an editor at Premiere (now Sky Deutschland ). There he was promoted to head of the “Creative Services” division. Then he was responsible for the agency Creation Club GmbH, as managing director.

Plazamedia

In 2006 he took over the management of Plazamedia GmbH, which offers live sports and event productions.

Constantin Sport Medien

In addition to his position as Plazamedia Managing Director, he was also responsible for Constantin Sport Medien GmbH as Managing Director, which produced the football channel Liga Total for Deutsche Telekom.

DSF and Sport1

From July 2009, in addition to his work as managing director of Plazamedia GmbH and Constantin Sport Medien GmbH, he also became managing director of DSF (German Sport Television) and Sport1. After taking office, he merged DSF's television offering and Sport1's online sports platform into a single brand, which is now known as Sport1. Together with the re-branding, he also rebuilt the content of the TV channel into a real sports channel, after it had come under criticism the years before for call-in shows in the afternoon and erotic clips in the night program. Zeljko Karajica brought formats such as the Darts World Championship , the Ice Hockey World Championship, the IAAF Diamond League, Sport1 News, the WM Doppelpass, TURBO - Das Automagazin and PS-Profis on German television. TV formats like TURBO - Das Automagazin and the PS-Profis with Jean-Pierre Krämer and Sidney Hoffmann were produced by the in-house creative agency Brandsome GmbH, of which Zeljko Karajica was also the managing director.

ProSiebenSat.1

In March 2012, Zeljko Karajica moved to the ProSiebenSat.1 Group , where he became Managing Director of ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland GmbH . In 2016 he founded the ProSiebenSat.1 sports business unit 7Sports GmbH, where he held the position as CEO . As 7Sports CEO, Karajica was responsible for the ran platform, ran Football, ranfighting, ranEsports, esports.com, Sportdeutschland.tv, YouSport, MMP-Event GmbH and SAM Sports GmbH. MMP Event GmbH organizes the BMW Open tennis tournament in Munich, among other things, while SAM SPORTS GmbH takes care of the advice and marketing of athletes. In 2015 Karajica brought the NFL ran Football with Jan Stecker, Patrick Esume and Icke Domisch to German television, and in 2018 the show was awarded the German television prize for "Best Sports Show" in 2018. Also in 2015, Karajica founded the martial arts platform ranfighting, which brought the UFC events to Germany and offers an archive of thousands of boxing, kickboxing and MMA fights for streaming. In 2017, Karajica built up the esports branch of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group and brought various esports formats to German television. In 2018, the DTM rights were acquired and these have since been broadcast under the program ran racing on the Sat.1 channel. In 2020 Karajica secured the rights to the German edition of the lifestyle soccer magazine Life After Football, the first issue appeared on February 20, 2020 and David Alaba graced the cover. At the end of February 2020, Zeljko Karajica left the group at his own request to pursue independent activities.

Zeljko Karajica is married and has three children. His brother Markan Karajica was also a manager at ProSiebenSat.1 and is the founder and managing director of the online fitness specialist 7NXT . His second brother, Tomislav Karajica , is an entrepreneur and investor.
