history

Zernikow (Slavic for "black heaps") was built around 1150. The first documentary mention of the village comes from 1321. The oldest remaining building is the stone church from the second half of the 13th century.

The Zernikow manor was owned by the following families from 1321 to 1949:

On September 30, 1928, the Zernikow manor was dissolved and the place was incorporated into Holzendorf. In 1949 the last owners were expropriated without compensation as part of the land reform . The land was given to landless farmers, farm workers, resettlers from Silesia, small tenants and the community. In the 1950s, 56 new settlers were created; from 1952 to 1990 Zernikow was an LPG location .

From 1992 the manor was leased and a farm started its work. The old manor and the granary are under monument protection. Since November 1st 2001 Zernikow belongs to the municipality of Nordwestuckermark . In the 1990s and 2000s, a forest area near Zernikow became known as the swastika forest .
