The Zhil'naya Mountain ( Russian Гора Жильная Gora Schilnaja , German 'branching mountain ' ) is a 2560 m high mountain in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It rises in the center of the Svarthausane of the southern Petermann chain in the Wohlthatmassiv .
The mountain was discovered and mapped using aerial photographs during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . A new mapping based on aerial photographs and surveys was carried out during the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960). The descriptive naming goes back to a Soviet Antarctic expedition from 1960 to 1961, which was transcribed in 1970 by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names . In Norway the mountain is called Žil'najatoppen .
