Zhou Wenzhong ( Chinese  周文 重 , Pinyin Zhōu Wénzhòng ; * August 1945 in Jiangsu ) is a Chinese politician and diplomat . From 2005 to 2010 he was the ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the USA .

Zhou Wenzhong has worked in the diplomatic service of the People's Republic of China since 1970. After studying for two years at the University of Bath and the London School of Economics and Political Science in Great Britain, he worked for the Foreign Office from 1975 to 1978 . Until 1983 he was attaché and third secretary in the Chinese Embassy in the USA. In 1983, he returned to the State Department for four years and was named Deputy Consul General in San Francisco in 1987. In 1990 he became the Chinese ambassador to Barbados and Antigua and Barbuda . After three years, he returned to China and was Deputy Director General of the Department of North American and Oceanic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 1994. He then was Consul General of China in Los Angeles until 1995 . This was followed by three years as envoy to the Chinese embassy in Washington, DC In 1998, Zhou Wenzhong was finally appointed ambassador of China to Australia .

In 2001, Zhou Wenzhong became State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; In 2003 he was appointed Vice Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China. In 2005 he swapped posts with Yang Jiechi and has been the ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the USA ever since.
