Cistercian convent of San Ildefonso (Teror)
The Cistercian monastery of San Ildefonso has been a monastery of the Cistercian women since 1634, first in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria , from 1868 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna ( Tenerife ) and since 1888 in Teror ( Gran Canaria ).
history
Saint Bernard sisters with the right to stricter observance of the Benedictine Rule founded in 1634 with the help of Bishop Cristóbal de la Cámara y Murga (1627–1635) in La Vegueta, the historic center of Las Palmas, the monastery of San Ildefonso (after Ildefons of Toledo ). In 1868 they were expelled and spent a decade in different places, including the monastery of the Poor Clares on Tenerife. Then she accepted Bishop José Proceso Pozuelo y Herrero (1879–1890) in Las Palmas in his ordinariate and built a monastery for them in Teror, which they were able to settle in 1888 and which they still live today. The monastery church was restored in 2003. A finca has belonged to the monastery since 1917 , the management of which contributes to the maintenance of the monastery and allows the nuns to offer sweets for sale. The monastery has been completely walled since 1930. The convent, which belongs to the Cistercian congregation of San Bernardo (CCSB) , founded the daughter convent Santísima Trinidad in Breña Alta ( La Palma ) on Tenerife in 1946 . The Museo Canario has stood at the former monastery in Vegueta since 1880 .
