Zoltán Komócsin (born April 18, 1923 in Felsőgalla , Komárom-Esztergom county ; † May 29, 1974 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian politician of the Communist Party KMP (Kommunisták Magyarországi Pártja) , the party of the Hungarian working people MDP (Magyar Dolgozók Pártja) and finally of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party MSZMP (Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt) , who was among other things First Secretary of the Communist Youth Association KISZ (Magyar Kommunista Ifjúsági Szövetség) , editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Népszabadság and secretary of the Central Committee of the MSZMP. At the 8th Party Congress on November 24, 1962, he was elected a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the MSZMP and was a member of this top management body of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party until his death.

Life

Vocational training, World War II and member of the Central Committee

Komócsin graduated after attending the elementary school , a vocational training for commercial assistant and then worked as a manager at the Del-Ka-shoe trading company. In 1938 he became a member of the Social Democratic Party MSZDP (Magyarországi Szociáldemokrata Párt) and then in 1940 of the illegal Communist Party KMP (Kommunisták Magyarországi Pártja) . After the liberation of Szeged from German occupation, he began his political engagement in the Communist Youth Association KISZ (Kommunista Ifjúsági Szövetség) and in the Hungarian Democratic Youth Association MÁDISZ (Magyar Demokratikus Ifjúsági Szövetség) and was initially secretary of the MÁDISZ in Szeged. Afterwards, after studying at the party college in Debrecen, between 1945 and 1948 he was organizational secretary of the KMP city administration of Szeged.

Komócsin then took on tasks as a party functionary in the party of the Hungarian working people, MDP (Magyar Dolgozók Pártja), which emerged from the KMP, and between June and December 1948 was an advisor to Mihály Farkas , the secretary for military and police of the Central Committee (ZK) of the MDP became Minister of Defense in September 1948. After he was secretary of the MDP leadership of Vas County between December 1948 and June 1949 , he returned to the party headquarters in Budapest and acted there from June 1949 to October 1950 as deputy head of the Central Committee's department for propaganda.

On May 15, 1949 he was elected to the list of the Communist Party and the National People's Front (Magyar Függetlenségi Népfront) for the first time as a member of parliament (Országgyűlés) and belonged to this until his death. First he represented Vas County and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County , then Csongrád County between November 16, 1958 and 1967 , then the fourth constituency of Csongrád County and, most recently, since 1971, the fifth constituency of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County.

After studying at the CPSU party college , Komócsin acted as deputy head of the Central Committee's department for agitation and propaganda between January 1953 and early 1954 and was then head of this department until December 1955. In 1954 he also became a member of the Central Committee of the MDP and in June 1954 also a member of the Central Party Control Commission. He was later from December 1955 to March 25, 1957 First Secretary of the MDP line of at Romania bordering Hajdú-Bihar .

In March 1957, Komócsin, as chairman of the organizing committee, was entrusted with the rebuilding of the Hungarian Communist Youth Association KISZ (Magyar Kommunista Ifjúsági Szövetség) , the youth organization of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party MSZMP (Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt), which emerged from the MDP after the popular uprising . After completing the reorganization, he became First Secretary of the KISZ and held this position until his replacement by Árpád Pullai in September 1961. On February 26, 1957, he also became a member of the Central Committee of the MSZMP and on June 29, 1957 a candidate for the Central Committee's Politburo .

Together with Gyula Hegyi and Sándor Gáspár , he was also President of the National Olympic Committee Magyar Olimpiai Bizottság (MOB) between 1958 and 1962 .

After finishing his work as first secretary of the KISZ, he succeeded Dezső Nemes as editor-in-chief of Népszabadság , the national daily newspaper with the highest circulation in Hungary, and held this position until he was replaced by János Gosztonyi in June 1965 . At the 8th Party Congress on November 24, 1962, he was elected a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the MSZMP and was a member of this top management body of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party until his death.

In June 1965 Komócsin became secretary of the Central Committee of the MSZMP and held this office until his death.
