Zouï is a settlement in northern Chad in the Tibesti region , about seven kilometers east of Bardaï . The freshwater lake Mare de Zoui is about three kilometers away .
Remains of iron processing (furnaces, slag and artifacts) were found near Zouï, dating back to about 115 BC using the radiocarbon method . And are among the oldest in Chad. In 1959 A. Coblentz discovered two individual graves with skeletons in a crouched position near Zouï in a necropolis along the connecting route from Bardaï to Aouzou .
In Zouï, on May 18, 1974, Hissène Habré met Robert Puissant, Françoise Claustre and the German negotiator Wallner for the first time in connection with the hostage-taking by a rebel group led by Habré. On May 19, the delegations met again in Zouï and Wallner accepted Habré's conditions for the release of the German doctor Christoph Staewen .
