The church

The Protestant village church to the 14 saints is located in the Süßenborn district of the city of Weimar in Thuringia . It belongs to the Weimar parish in the Weimar parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The church has Roman roots and was first mentioned in a document in 1180. The sacristy supports the narrow east tower with Romanesque sound openings on the upper floor and remains of the apse building . The inner wall has a sacrament niche from the Gothic period, which is covered.

In 1820/21, Clemens Wenzeslaus Coudray had the three-axis nave built in traditional forms with high arched windows. It connects to the tower with a high arch. The entrance as a central portal is on the south side. A sundial was also installed in 1821.

The bells from 1777 come from Apolda .

The tower has a high tail hood , lantern and a small dome. A dome window with a central column and two arched windows are further traces of the first building.

The organ , built by Adalbert Förtsch in 1866 , was given a neo-Gothic front in the last century . In 1983 it was relocated due to construction work and installed again after 2011. It kept its great sound.

The 20th century has afflicted the building. In 1987/88 the roof of the nave was re-covered to protect the church from further decay. In the meantime the church has received new exterior plaster. The tower button was repaired in 2002. The tower button was gilded and applied with the weather vane . The re-inauguration took place in 2009.

reception

Lyonel Feininger sketched and painted the church several times.
