In his first film , Franz Lederer played alongside Henny Porten , who was already well known at the time . The premiere was on August 3, 1928.

Reviews

“That this simple story turned into a wonderful film, even a tangible advance in the field of German film in general - we owe that to the director, in addition to the excellent presentation. Carl Froelich had the courage to openly show what he had learned from New Russian film art. […] There is hardly any traditional scheme here, there is no shameless make-up, nothing and nobody makes themselves 'cute' - yes, the excellent Henny Porten does not even shy away from turning into a self-denying cinderella. That sounds harsh, but it means liberation from the traditional teasing fuss of numerous film divas and numerous directors. [...] The film is a bright spot. "

- Berliner Lokal-Anzeiger , September 1, 1928

“The good role of her Hanne is elevated to all-human validity when this joyless market girl awakens to motherly-loving sacrifice, when she, the bitter, with two strong arms prepares a new life for the stray, and when the short spring full of warmth and Promise on the deathbed of the selflessly loved one disappears forever. This lover is Franz Lederer, [...] as a film debutant of the innocence of Russian film actors. Naturalistic life and experience is raised by him through creative ability into that sphere in which there are no brilliant details, but only a self-evident whole. The management of the tactically, technically and visually very hard and skillful Carl Froelich contributed the rest of the success. "
