In the wrong place at the wrong time is a documentary by Tamara Milosevic from 2005 , which deals with the murder of 16-year-old Marinus Schöberl by three young people in July 2002 . The film was released in German cinemas on March 16, 2006.

action

The renunciatory explanations, ratings and comments documentary opened with the reading of the indictment against the three killer of Marinus Schöberl from the off and then focuses on the young Matthias, a friend of the murdered man and his social environment and the disturbed relationship with his family . No direct questions about the crime are asked of Marinus. Matthias, who also discovered and dug up Marinus' body, cannot cope with the cruel deed that happened to his friend. Unlike many other villagers, he cannot suppress the act, shows feelings and cannot cope with the aggression around him. Since he found Marinus' body, which earned him the reputation of a traitor at school, Matthias has been traumatized and suffers from severe depression. He dropped out of school and spent the next few months in front of the television in his room. Matthias also says that he often imagines that he might as well have been the victim. He wants to make a fresh start and wants to make something of his life, for example to start an apprenticeship. But this is not easy for the school dropout, because the trauma and the mental damage that burden him twice. His father, who describes Marinus as a fellow traveler and defenseless victim who does not fit into society and belongs to the special school, says, on the other hand, that the traumatized and therefore phlegmatic Matthias is only obdurate, would rest on his trauma and not his life himself want to take the hand.

In addition to Matthias and his father, others also have their say, such as the mayor. He asks himself how the gruesome murder of Marinus Schöberl could come about and complains that the media only want quick answers, but the act was not planned, the murderers of Marinus just wanted to "let the pig out". The mayor suspects the parents are to blame. Other local residents usually do not talk about the murder and do not feel responsible for it. There are other problems for them that weigh on Potzlow and its residents. In Matthias' social environment, adults drink beer, smoke pot and celebrate garden parties with the children. During a barbecue round, a 36-year-old for no good and alcoholic is described by Matthias father as not exactly loving, a little teased. He doesn't want that, but he's too drunk to fight back. He is pushed into the lake, a little teased. In a subsequent interview, he reluctantly expresses his displeasure. It's just fun, everyone gets a turn, he says appropriately.

Trivia

Reviews

  • The young director Tamara Milosevic ventured to Potzlow with the camera for her final production at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy. If she shows the landscape in the wrong place at the beginning of At the Wrong Time, the deserted village street, the abandoned pigsty, then that's enough to imagine the sequence of the killing, which one recalls from the other media reports. Direct questions about the crime are not asked this time, Milosevic is not out for open confrontation. Instead, she finds Marinus' former friend Matthias, who appears like a small human miracle in his environment. He is apparently the only one who cannot suppress what has happened, who shows feelings and cannot cope with the aggression around him. “How stupid are people. This amazes me. That scares me, ”he says, and the documentation also produces an uncanny measure of this eternal astonishment and fear through its uncommented look at the seemingly normal dullness of everyday life in a village in Germany. • Tamara Milosevic is not primarily interested in an individual's case of illness, but rather in an entire community, in its moral deficits and intellectual gaps, the provincial narrowness and the scarce opportunities to escape it. It is about the sleep of reason and the monsters that arise from it. The animal in man and the conditions that it needs to break out of him. The fact that the film doesn't offer brisk explanations speaks for him and his director. ( film service )
  • “At the wrong time in the wrong place” is staged safely and inconspicuously. The documentary does not attract attention with unusual antics, everything is subordinate to the topic and the best possible approach to it. "At the wrong time in the wrong place" will not win a beauty award, the qualities are somewhere else. The 60 minutes of playing time are effectively used to lead the viewer into a world, into a life that is not so strange to him. The result is a fascinating study of the environment, a documentation that stirs up and shows courage. It is brave to let the residents have their say, because some statements are not without ... • The film does not have any comments, the only two voiceovers are quotes from the indictment and from a medical report on Matthias. AT THE WRONG TIME IN THE WRONG PLACE reminds us of the work of Claude Lanzmann in the language of the film, in the dialectic of closeness, as the camera creates, and distance, as the montage creates. A great comparison - but the successful juxtaposition of the reality of the perpetrator environment, in which there is no return to normality because normality was not broken at all, with the reality of the victim environment, in which the trauma has destroyed the biographical continuity, is an outstanding documentation German conditions. • In her film, Tamara Milosevic paints with oppressive intensity the image of a community in which it can be fatal to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. ( Southwest television )
