The Zuragkogel is a mountain of the Kaunergrat , a mountain range of the Ötztal Alps . The mountain stands directly north of the Rifflsee and is part of a ridge that stretches from the Brandkogel to the Seekarlesschneid . It has ridges to the west (to the Hohen Kogel ), to the south (to the Brandkogel) and to the northeast (to the Steinkogel). Its south and north-east ridge borders the Alzeleskar, which is located southeast of the mountain.

From the Brandkogel, the shape of the mountain gives the impression of a high volcanic cone. Particularly noticeable is its torn arched ridge to the Brandkogel with a few ridge breaks and ridge towers. In its southern flank, a system of channels runs down towards the Rifflsee. The ridge of the Zuragkogel consists of fairly brittle rock. At the top of the mountain there is a stone man with a marker pole.

Routes

The route from the Brandkogel leads over the initially wide, blocky west ridge towards the first elevation. Always on the ridge with a few smaller bypasses on the south side. At the first pronounced ridge head (Steinmann) bypass in the north side and return to the ridge, which is followed in the arch until shortly before the big break. South down from the ridge and around under the ridge arch to before the big drop. The demolition is overcome by climbing to the notch at a ridge point that is halfway up the demolition on the far left. Now on the west side of the torn ridge up steeply through blocks until the demolition is overcome. Now to the eye-catching ridge tower, left down and past the tower. The height of the ridge can be regained at the next ridge break by climbing up some cracks on the left. Now over the steep but wide south ridge of the Zuragkogel in easy climbing up to the summit with Steinmann.

Also from the Brandkogel you walk the west ridge until you can cross into the Alzeleskar. You always cross on the left side below the west ridge through the often snow-filled cirque . Shortly before the ridge arch to a rock group where a rubble channel leads upwards. Through the rubble gully to the eye-catching ridge tower and through the ridge window to the west side of the ridge where you climb towards the summit as above.

Other possible routes are crossing the ridge from the Steinkogel or the direct ascent over the north ridge over black plates.
