The COVID-19 pandemic in Grenada began on March 12, 2020. Grenada is an island state between the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean , located about 200 kilometers northeast of the coast of Venezuela , and home to around 107,000 residents. On April 27, 2020, 18 COVID 19 infections were counted, including 7 recovered.

The pandemic is part of the global COVID-19 pandemic that started in China in December 2019. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19. This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

On March 9, 2020, the government of Grenada under Prime Minister Keith Mitchell decided to impose an entry ban on people from countries in which cases of a COVID-19 pandemic had been reported to the WHO , including Germany. Citizens of Grenada and people with a residence permit were still able to enter, but they have to undergo entry controls, health checks with temperature measurements and a 14-day quarantine.

In order to avoid the spread of the pandemic, schools and event rooms were closed as a precaution and distance rules were announced by people on March 14.

The first case of COVID-19 infection in Grenada became known on March 22nd involving a 50-year-old woman who returned from the UK on March 16 and fell ill on March 17th.

On March 25, the Grenada government imposed restrictions on freedom of movement to the bare minimum and a night curfew. Shops that cannot adhere to the distance rules should close and restaurants and bars should only offer take away products. After the infection reports did not fail to fail, the government of Grenada declared a 24-hour lockout on March 29 for a period of 7 days. This state of emergency was extended several times and the last extension lasted until April 27, 2020.
