COVID-19 pandemic in Guatemala

The COVID-19 pandemic occurs in Guatemala since March 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic , which took place in December 2019 in China originated. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

Course and measures

Entry has been banned for citizens of European countries, South Korea , China and Iran since March 12, 2020 . This entry ban was extended to American and Canadian citizens on March 16, 2020 .

On March 13, 2020, the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Guatemala. It is a citizen of Guatemala who had visited Italy . This case appeared three days later, on March 16, for the first time in a WHO situation report.

A curfew between 4 p.m. and 4 a.m. was announced on March 21, 2020, and has been in effect since March 22, 2020.

As of April 14, 2020, there are 156 confirmed cases, including 5 deaths, according to the WHO.
