    The COVID-19 pandemic has been occurring in Uzbekistan since March 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic that started in China in December 2019. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

    On March 15, 2020, the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in Uzbekistan. It was a returnee from France . Four cases from Uzbekistan appeared in the WHO situation reports for the first time on March 16, 2020.

    As of April 5, 2020, the WHO has confirmed 298 COVID-19 cases and two deaths in Uzbekistan. The number of infections rose to over 5,000 by mid-May 2020, and the ten thousandth new infection was registered at the beginning of July. At the end of July there were 20,000 infected people in mid-August. The number of deaths rose to over 500 by mid-July.
