COVID-19 pandemic in Tonga
Infections from a COVID-19 pandemic in Tonga have not yet become known. The island state of Tonga , a kingdom, has a little more than 100,000 inhabitants and is one of the few states on earth where there are no COVID-19 infected people (as of June 10, 2020).

The COVID-19 pandemic is occurring as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic that began in China in December 2019 . The COVID-19 pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic .

The island state of Tonga is located in the Pacific east of Fiji , south of Samoa and north of New Zealand .
Tonga consists of 172 islands with names that cover an area of 747 square kilometers, of which 36 islands are inhabited with a total area of 649 square kilometers.
According to the WHO, Tonga has one of the best health systems in the Pacific and has a health system with three regional hospitals and a central hospital in the state capital, Nukualofa , the Vaiola Hospital, 14 local health centers and a further 34 maternity and children's clinics

On March 20, 2020, Tonga imposed a so-called lockdown until April 17, 2020 , which brought public life to a standstill. All foreigners had to leave Tonga. Tongans arriving after March 20 will be placed in quarantine for 14 days. All Tongans were encouraged to stay at home. Concert, sports, marriage, birthday events and participation of relatives in funerals and entry of Tongans to funerals were prohibited. Nightclubs, bars and clubs must close on March 25th. People have to comply with rules of social distancing, with a maximum of 20 people inside and 40 outside the building. The ban exempted supermarkets, pharmacies and shops that are considered vital.
Companies in Tonga that are in financial distress due to the curfew should be supported in coordination with the state and banks. Australia is supporting Tonga in the fight against the SARS-CoV-2 virus with AUD 12 million until 2022.
