COVID-19 pandemic in the Republic of the Congo

The COVID-19 pandemic has been occurring in the Republic of the Congo since March 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic that began in China in December 2019. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

Course and measures

On March 14, 2020, the first COVID-19 disease was confirmed in the Republic of the Congo. It was a man who was returning to the Republic of the Congo from Paris, France. This case first appeared in the WHO situation report on March 15, 2020.

Two more COVID-19 diseases were discovered on March 19, 2020.

On March 28, 2020, President Denis Sassou-Nguesso announced a 30-day curfew that will apply from March 31, after the number of infected people rose to 19.

As of March 31, 2020, 19 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the Republic of the Congo.

The first two COVID-19-related deaths in the country occurred on March 31, 2020 and first appeared in the WHO Situation Report on April 2, 2020. As of April 19, 2020, 143 COVID-19 cases and six COVID-19-related deaths had been confirmed in the Republic of the Congo by the WHO.
