COVID-19 pandemic in St. Vincent and the Grenadines

The COVID-19 pandemic has occurred in St. Vincent and the Grenadines since March 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic that started in China in December 2019. The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases . From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic.

Course and measures

On March 11, 2020, the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. An infected passenger had traveled from the United Kingdom via Barbados to St. Vincent. This case first appeared in the WHO situation reports on March 13, 2020.

On March 27, 2020, Health Secretary Luke Browne announced that a retest for the first patient who originally tested positive was now negative. With that there was the first healed person in the country.

On April 1, 2020, St. Vincent and the Grenadines recorded their second confirmed case of COVID-19. On April 2, 2020, the Ministry of Health announced that a third case had been recorded.

Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves announced in early April 2020 that the annual Vincy Mas Festival would be canceled for 2020 to protect the population from the spread of the virus. On April 3, 2020, the Ministry of Health announced that it had recorded four more cases, bringing the total number of cases to seven.

As of April 22, 2020, the WHO had confirmed 12 COVID-19 cases in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
