Chauncey Vibbard (born November 11, 1811 in Galway , New York , † June 5, 1891 in Macon , Georgia ) was an American politician . Between 1861 and 1863 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Chauncey Vibbard was born in Galway, Saratoga County , about eight months before the outbreak of the British-American War . He attended community schools and graduated from Mott's Academy for Boys in Albany . He then worked in Albany as a clerk in a grocery wholesaler. He moved to New York City and from there in 1834 after Montgomery ( Alabama ). Then he returned to New York and settled in Schenectady . In 1836 he was appointed Chief Clerk of the Utica & Schenectady Railroad Co.He became a rail freight and ticket seller in 1848. He united the many small railroad companies in western New York to form the New York Central Railroad Co. , where he served as first general superintendent between 1853 and 1865 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1860 congressional elections for the 37th Congress , Vibbard was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 18th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Clark B. Cochrane on March 4, 1861 . Since he on a run again in 1862 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1863 Congress of.

During the Civil War in 1862 he served as Director and Superintendent of Military Railroads . Between 1864 and 1867 he was the first president of Family Fund Insurance Co. During that time he moved to New York City in 1865, where he entered the steamship and elevated railroad business. After he retired in 1889, he devoted himself to building the southern railways as well as Central and South American companies. He died on June 5, 1891 in Macon and was then buried in Riverside Cemetery .
