Chesselden Ellis

Chesselden Ellis (* 1808 in New Windsor , Vermont , † May 10, 1854 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1843 and 1845 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Chesselden Ellis was born in New Windsor about four years before the outbreak of the British-American War . He completed his undergraduate studies and then graduated from Union College in Schenectady in 1823 . Then he studied law . He was admitted to the bar in 1829 and then began practicing at Waterford . He was elected prosecuting attorney in Saratoga County - a position he held from April 25, 1837 to September 11, 1843. Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1842 congressional elections for the 28th Congress , Ellis was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Andrew W. Doig on March 4, 1843 . In 1844 he was defeated in his re-election bid and was eliminated from the after March 3, 1845 Congress of.

After his time in Congress, he went back to his practice as a lawyer in Waterford. He moved to New York City in 1845, where he continued to practice until his death. He died there on May 10, 1854 and was buried in Albany in the cemetery of the same name.
