Moss Kent

Moss Kent (born April 3, 1766 in Rensselaer County , Province of New York , † May 30, 1838 in Plattsburgh , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1813 and 1817 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Moss Kent grew up during the British colonial era. He completed his preliminary studies. Then he studied law . After receiving his license to practice law, began practicing. He was named First Judge in Jefferson County around 1795 . Then he moved to Cooperstown . He was a member of the New York Senate between 1799 and 1803 and the New York State Assembly in 1807 and 1810 . On February 26, 1810, he was appointed a judge in Jefferson County. Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party .

In the 1812 congressional elections for the 13th Congress , Kent was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 18th electoral district of New York , where he became the first representative of the district in the US House of Representatives on March 4, 1813 . He was re-elected once and then dropped out after the March 3, 1817 Congress of.

After his time at Congress he went back to his practice as a lawyer. He died on May 30, 1838 in Plattsburgh and was buried in Riverside Cemetery .
