James Girard Lindsley

James Girard Lindsley (born March 19, 1819 in Orange , New Jersey , † December 4, 1898 in Kingston , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1887 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Girard Lindsley was born in Orange about four years after the end of the British-American War . He attended public schools, Ransom's Military Academy and Pierson's Orange Classical School . Then he moved to New York. Between 1859 and 1864 he was a trustee in the Village of Rondout . He was President of the Village of Rondout in 1852 and between 1867 and 1869. He was elected supervisor of Kingston in March 1872 and first mayor of Kingston in April of that year - an office to which he was re-elected for the next six years. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the 1884 congressional elections for the 49th Congress , Lindsley was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 17th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Henry G. Burleigh on March 4, 1885 . Since he on a run again in 1886 renounced, he left the after 3 March 1887 Congress of.

After his time at Congress, he was general manager of Newark Lime & Cement Manufacturing Co. in Kingston. He was the founder and president of Kingston Water Co. on December 4, 1898, he died in Kingston. His body was then interred in Montrepose Cemetery in Rondout.
