Martin J. Kennedy

Martin John Kennedy (born August 29, 1892 in New York City , † October 27, 1955 ) was an American politician . Between 1930 and 1945 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Martin John Kennedy attended public schools. He graduated from Columbia University in New York City in 1909 and from City College of New York in 1914 . He then pursued real estate and insurance businesses in 1916. During the First World War he served in the US Army intelligence service between 1915 and 1918 . Then he chaired the New York City School Board between 1918 and 1924 . He sat in the New York Senate between 1924 and 1930 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

He was elected in a by-election on April 11, 1930 in the 18th electoral district of New York in the 71st Congress in Washington, DC to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of John F. Carew . He was then elected to the seven following congresses . In 1944 he suffered a defeat in his re-election and resigned from Congress on January 3, 1945.

After his time at the Congress he went back to real estate and insurance business. He died on October 27, 1955 in New York City and was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Maspeth .
