Isaac N. Cox

Isaac Newton Cox (born August 1, 1846 in Fallsburg , New York , † September 28, 1916 in Ellenville , New York) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Isaac Newton Cox was born in Fallsburg, Sullivan County , approximately three months after the outbreak of the Mexican-American War . In 1864 he moved to Ellenville and did a lumber business. Cox served as a supervisor in the Town of Wawarsing from 1875 to 1883 and 1886, and served as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors for the last year . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party . He sat on the Democratic State Committee for four years . In 1886 President Grover Cleveland appointed him chairman of the commission to review and report on the condition of the Northern Pacific Railroad .

In the congressional elections of 1890 for the 52nd Congress , Cox was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 17th electoral district of New York , where he succeeded Charles J. Knapp on March 4, 1891 . In 1892 he was defeated in his re-election bid and was eliminated from the after March 3, 1893 Congress of.

In 1894 he was appointed to the State Commission on Fisheries , where he remained until 1899. He then went on to do business in Ellenville, but also pursued lumber and banking business there. He died on September 28, 1916 in Ellenville and was then buried in Fantinekill Cemetery .
