Killian Killian Van Rensselaer (born June 9, 1763 in Greenbush , New York Province, † June 18, 1845 in Albany , New York ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1801 and 1811 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Killian Killian Van Rensselaer grew up during the British colonial era, studied and completed his preparatory studies. He then attended Yale College . He studied law . He was admitted to the bar in 1784 and then began practicing at Claverack . He was the private secretary of General Philip Schuyler . Politically he belonged to the Federalist Party .

In the 1800 congressional elections , Van Rensselaer was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of New York , where he succeeded Henry Glen on March 4, 1801 . In 1802 he ran for a seat in the ninth electoral district of New York. After a successful election, he succeeded Benjamin Walker on March 4, 1803 . He was re-elected twice in a row. He was then elected to the US House of Representatives in the seventh electoral district of New York in 1808 , where he succeeded Barent Gardenier on March 4, 1809 . After his time at Congress, he worked as a lawyer again. He died on June 18, 1845 in Albany and was then buried in a private cemetery in Greenbush. Congressman Jeremiah Van Rensselaer (1738-1810) was his cousin and Congressman Solomon Van Vechten Van Rensselaer (1774-1852) was his nephew.
