Martin G. Schuneman

Martin Gerretsen Schuneman (born February 10, 1764 in Catskill , New York Province, † February 21, 1827 ibid) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1805 and 1807 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Martin Gerretsen Schuneman grew up during the British colonial era. He was tutored by his father. In 1792 he was Justice of the Peace in Albany County . He went to commercial transactions and had an inn ( inn ) in Madison . He was Town Supervisor in Catskill in 1797, 1799 and 1802 , first in Albany County and later in Greene County . He served in the New York State Assembly for Ulster County from 1798 to 1800 and for Greene County in 1803 . In 1801 he took part in the New York Constituent Assembly as a delegate from Greene County . As an opponent of an overly strong central government, he joined the Democratic-Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson at that time . In the congressional elections of 1804 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of New York , where he succeeded Josiah Hasbrouck on March 4, 1805 . He retired from the after March 3, 1807 Congress of. Then he went about his previous business. He died in Catskill on February 21, 1827 and was buried in the Old Cemetery in Madison (now Leeds ).
