The 2007 Stan James World Matchplay will be the 14th annual staging of a professional darts tournament by the Professional Darts Corporation. It will be held at its traditional home, the Winter Gardens, Blackpool between July 22 and July 29. Phil Taylor will be defending the title which he has won eight times.

First round


Sunday 22 July

Painter - Gray 12-10

Kevin Painter survived a spirited display from youngster Adrian Gray in the first round of the 2007 Stan James World Matchplay. The opening game of the major tournament went into a tiebreak which Painter won 12-10 after a sloppy twenty-second leg of Gray. Wayne Mardle produced some amazing check-outs in his first round tie of the World Matchplay against Mark Dudbridge. 'Hawaii 501' finished par example 110, 121, 105 and 96. The final score of the game was 10-7 for Mardle, who now plays Roland Scholten of the Netherlands. 'The Flying Dutchman' celebrated in the last game of the opening night against Chris Mason. The match went into a tiebreak and Scholten finally won 13-11 after he had missed a lot of doubles for the win.
